I enjoy using acrylics taking advantage of its various textures, smoothness, fluidity, and viscosity in many different ways. I splatter, drip, spread, brush, and throw it discovering how colors react when they meet each other. Analyzing, playing, and observing the canvas as it layers up until my expression need is satisfied.

I was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, a coastal city nestled in the Caribbean Sea and a port of entry for many immigrants. Early on I was exposed to the rich cultural heritage that was endemic to my surroundings: Spanish, Indigenous and African. Every year this rich environment explodes into a Carnival that imprinted colorful memories in my soul; cumbia drums and music, dancers in a kaleidoscope of costumes filling the streets, celebrating for four days the many nuances of my culture.
A few years ago, I started experimenting with acrylics, paint brushes, palette knives, as an answer to a desire I felt to express and explore the need to create. This was a creative process that only close friends and family knew about and that I was unsure of where it will lead me. But soon I discovered that through an amalgamation of bright colors I had already found an avenue of my creative being.

Not being a college trained artist eliminates the fear of breaking the rules or doing something wrong or right because I am freely exploring, observing, analyzing, and deciding if the canvas is expressing what I desire. I name my art not because of some sort of inspiration, but from the memories or feelings evoked by the colors as they mix, connect or layer up. My wish is that my art would entice and convey the same feeling to the observer or future owner; his/ her own interpretation and connection to the piece.
